The Stafford County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday will interview seven candidates — all who seek temporary appointment to the Board until a special election is held in November to replace Bob Thomas, of the George Washington District, who was elected to the House of Delegates last November.

There are some big changes coming to the way we park at area Metro stations. 

Starting Monday, Feb. 5, Washington’s subway system will expand it’s paid parking hours at multiple stations, and it will institute a new fee for those who park at stations but do not use the Metro system.

STAFFORD — It may look like there’s nothing happening at The Garrison, but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.

The shopping center site in North Stafford, at the intersection of Route 610 and Travis Lane, is slated to be home to the county’s first mixed-use development, complete with a planned 12-screen Regal Cinemas, new restaurants and apartment homes.

STAFFORD COUNTY — About 20 people came to Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School in North Stafford on Saturday to hear from two elected officials to talk about the bills they have in the Virginia General Assembly.

The town hall meeting was held by State Senator Scott Surovell, of the 36th District, whose district reaches from the Wilson Bridge in Alexandria south along Route 1 into North Stafford, Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy who represents North Stafford and Woodbridge.

There are pedestrian connection problems between Haymarket and Gainesville.

“I’ve don’t know if you’ve been down Catharpin Road, between the bridge and Route 55, but there is nowhere to walk,” said Prince William County Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Drivers on Prince William Parkway at Balls Ford Road could see a diverging diamond.

The type of crossing that’s popping up all over the state called a Diverging Diamond Interchange, is proposed to replace a four-way intersection now controlled a signal light, near Interstate 66.
