Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, immigration is once again becoming a hot issue in Prince William County.

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 19, the Prince William County Board of Supervisors aims to fill three vacant positions on the county’s jail board — an 11-member body which provides direction for the operation of the jail and is, by law, headed by county Sheriff and jail board Chairman Glendell Hill.

Two staff members at the Prince William County jail have tested positive for coronavirus, and 11 inmates are showing signs of the disease.

Now there’s a quarantine underway at the facility in Manassas.

Police have stepped up speeding enforcement on Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge after a woman was struck and killed while walking her dog.

The victim, Deborah Lynn Talbot, 50, was struck on Friday, May 1 while walking near Swan Avenue. Days earlier, she sent a message to the Prince William police department noting the problem of speeding on Cardinal Drive, and when police were going to step-up enforcement, WRC-TV reports.

The annual Memorial Day ceremony in Stafford County is the latest victim in the coronavirus outbreak.

County officials noted this morning that they, regrettably, canceled the Memorial Day 2020 Ceremony at the Stafford Armed Services Memorial at the county government center, located at 1300 Courthouse Road, due to the COVID-19 pandemic along with adhering to CDC and State guidelines regarding social distancing and the governor’s 10-person gathering restriction.

The Board of County Supervisors voted 7-1 on Tuesday to direct County Attorney Michelle Robl to file a Freedom of Information Act records order demanding that at least 10,000 private, direct messages between students and Prince William County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Steven L. Walts be made public.
