Surveillance video shows mob attack man outside Prince William Government Center

Newly obtained surveillance video shows a mob of protestors attacked a man outside the Prince William County Government Center in Woodbridge.

The attack occurred just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, just before the start of the Board of County Supervisors meeting. The video shows a 72-year-old man attempting to walk into the government center when he was attacked by a group of protesters who were calling for supervisors to defund the county police department.

1 dead in head-on collision after robbery suspect evades law enforcement

Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called at 7:44 p.m. Friday, July 18 to Colonial Avenue in Falmouth to investigate a report of a stolen silver SUV. While investigators were taking the report, another deputy spotted the SUV traveling near the Rappahannock Regional Jail, about seven miles north of where the car was reported stolen.

The deputy pursued the stolen SUV, which was traveling northbound on Route 1, about three miles north to Tamar Creek Drive. Once there, the driver of the deputy attempted to stop the stolen vehicle using a pit maneuver, using his cruiser to try to cause the SUV to spin out.

Protestors target homes of Fredericksburg mayor, city manager

Protestors used a blow horn on to take their message to the homes of Fredericksburg’s mayor and city manager.

The incidents come after Black Lives Matter protestors took to city streets in June following the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd at the hands of a former police officer.

Leaders defer vote on $300 million Route 28 bypass

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors deferred action on a project to build a Route 28 bypass.

Coles District Supervisor Yesli Vega asked for more time to talk to constituents who live in the area where the four-lane road will be built, in the Loch Lomond section of the county near Manassas. A total of 54 homes in this neighborhood will be demolished as part of the project.

Prince William submits Van Buren Road extension for state funding

Van Buren Road tops a list of transportation projects that Prince William County transportation officials hope the state will fund through its Smart Scale program.

The $70-million project would extend the road about three miles, from Route 234 in Dumfries to Cardinal Drive in Dale City. The extension would create a new parallel route to Interstate 95 and would take up to six years to build the four-lane street.

Support grows for re-opening schools in fall while teacher talking points memo circulates

Rallies to reopen schools will be held in two Northern Virginia counties today.

First at 4:30 p.m., the “Open Spotsy Schools Protest” will be held outside the Spotsylvania County Public Schools Administration Building at 8020 River Stone Drive. The protest is being organized by 13-year-old student Hayley Searles, who tipped off Potomac Local News about the protest.
