Pedestrian safety is an emerging problem at a new development on Ridgefield Hoadly Road in Dale City, according to the LOCCA-PELT Civic Association. A total of 100 new townhomes will be built as part of the Apollo project at Apollo Drive and Ridgefield Road, along with a new shopping center with a daycare.

A dollar store, a gymnastics center, and a credit union are already located at this intersection, and a new self-storage business also won approval to build in this spot.


Quantico

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization canceled a live version of its annual Turkey Trot 10K and Mile that had been scheduled to take place at Quantico Marine Corps Base.

The event originally had been planned as both, a live version, to be held on Saturday, November 21 with an accompanying virtual option. More than 1,500 participants are registered across both event options.


Business

The developer of a new 30,000 square-foot wet lab space is expected to get some more time time to secure its permits, allowing it to quality for grant funding.

The new development, to be located at 11225 Assett Loop, near a Target store in Sowder Village Square, was supposed to have its permits, and building plans submitted to Prince William County by October 30. However, the project was delayed due to the coronavirus, according to county documents.

A Tweet shared over the weekend by a Richmond political reporter Brandon Jarvis hints at the possibility of Delegate Lee Carter — the only self-described Democratic Socialist to hold elected office in Virginia — running for governor.

Cater, who was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2017 to represent who represents the Bristow area of Prince William County, as well as Manassas, has seen his share of ups and downs this year, being pepper-sprayed during a standoff with police outside Manassas in May, and having none of his bills — one which would have put police officers in jail for six months, or fining them $1,000, for not properly displaying a badge un during a record 12-week special session of the General Assembly that concluded this month.

The cost of extending Conner Drive, a two-lane street in Manassas Park, has increased by 525% to $2.5 million. And it could go up from there, but city leaders want to get the ball rolling. City leaders say it cost more than expected to relocate utility lines. the effort to extend the street to connect Route 28 with Euclid Avenue first appeared on the radar in 2011. Of more than a half-million people who live in the Prince William Health District, as of today, four are hospitalized with complications from the coronavirus.

With 525,000 residents, the district includes Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.

The future of baseball in Manassas will be discussed at a City Council work session Monday night.

The Greater Manassas Baseball League, which offers baseball to boys and girls between the ages of eight and 18, will meet with elected leaders to discuss the future of its E.G. Smith Baseball Complex, formerly an eight-baseball field complex at the corner of Route 28 and Godwin Drive.


Traffic

Drivers along about a mile of Route 1 now have six travel lanes and bicyclists and pedestrians have a continuous shared-use path and sidewalk from Mary’s Way to Annapolis Way, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Northbound Route 1 now has three travel lanes and a continuous six-foot-wide sidewalk from Marys Way to Annapolis Way, while southbound Route 1 now has three travel lanes and a continuous ten-foot-wide shared-use path from Annapolis Way to Marys Way.

Occoquan residents will once again hear the blaring sound of a warning siren used to alert residents in the event of a dam break.

Fairfax Water will sound the siren on Wednesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. According to the water service’s website, the sirens were installed to warn residents of the Town of Occoquan, which lies below the dam, “in the highly unlikely” even of a massive failure.
