The future of baseball in Manassas will be discussed at a City Council work session Monday night.

The Greater Manassas Baseball League, which offers baseball to boys and girls between the ages of eight and 18, will meet with elected leaders to discuss the future of its E.G. Smith Baseball Complex, formerly an eight-baseball field complex at the corner of Route 28 and Godwin Drive.


Traffic

Drivers along about a mile of Route 1 now have six travel lanes and bicyclists and pedestrians have a continuous shared-use path and sidewalk from Mary’s Way to Annapolis Way, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Northbound Route 1 now has three travel lanes and a continuous six-foot-wide sidewalk from Marys Way to Annapolis Way, while southbound Route 1 now has three travel lanes and a continuous ten-foot-wide shared-use path from Annapolis Way to Marys Way.

Occoquan residents will once again hear the blaring sound of a warning siren used to alert residents in the event of a dam break.

Fairfax Water will sound the siren on Wednesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. According to the water service’s website, the sirens were installed to warn residents of the Town of Occoquan, which lies below the dam, “in the highly unlikely” even of a massive failure.

Student-athletes at Osbourn High School will return to the field on December 7.

That’s the start of winter sports, as outlined by the Virginia High School Leauge and Gov. Ralph Northam, who is permitting student-athletes to return to the game for the first time since schools first closed due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

A woman stopped a man from walking out of a McDonald’s with an undisclosed amount of cash on Saturday, November 7.

Dean Bell was had just ordered a fries and a Coke and was standing at the counter waiting to get his food when he saw a man walked up to the register and stick his hand in the till.

Police say they have a suspect in custody following the shooting death of two people at a Halloween party on Bristol Court in Dale City in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 1.

A total of four people were shot in the incident, which was followed by another shooting seriously injured another man later that same day, at a home on Hackwood Street in Dale City.

Councilman Ian Lovejoy is now shy of 75 votes of holding onto his seat on the Manassas City Council, and a recount is likely.

When the polls closed on Election Day, poll workers failed to add together the vote totals from the two optical scanning voting machines used at the city’s Metz Precinct. When the numbers were added together the next morning, Lovejoy (R) picked up 100 more votes putting his race into recount territory.

Elections officials hope to have their first count of absentee ballots by 11 p.m., four hours after polls close in the state.

“The department of elections gave localities a cut-off time of 11 p.m. to stop counting ballots,” said Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner Chris Piper.
