Woman strangled inside Dumfries hotel room escapes

A Lorton man is in custody after a woman escaped from a Dumfries motel and told police she was abducted and strangled.

Strangulation | Abduction *ARREST – On February 9, the suspect sought in connection to the assault that was reported to have occurred at the Motel 6 located at 17133 Dumfries Rd. in Dumfries (22026) on February 1, was arrested. The suspect, Jeremy Dewayne NICKENS, was located and taken into custody by members of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Water utility to continue virtual school program for children

The Prince William County Service Authority will continue to offer remote instruction to Prince William County students for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year through its popular H2Go Kids Virtual Classroom.

Since September 2020, the Service Authority has used this engaging online learning platform to connect with nearly 7,000 Prince William County School students. Presentations for children in kindergarten through sixth grade align with the Virginia Standards of Learning and include topics such as erosion, weathering, watersheds, protecting our resources and drinking water/wastewater treatment.

Virginia House advances paid leave bill for essential workers

The Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill on Thursday which would provide paid leave to essential workers.

House Bill 2137, introduced by Del. Elizabeth Guzman, D-Woodbridge, would require essential businesses to offer paid leave to their workers, according to the bill. Employees must be offered a minimum of one paid hour off for every 30 hours they’ve worked, although the bill does not prevent employers from offering additional paid time off. A qualifying employee must work at least 20 hours a week.
