The Stafford County Board of Supervisors will hold a joint public hearing with the County’s Planning Commission to consider repealing the county’s cemetery ordinance.

The move comes as the county is being sued by the U.S. Department of Justice for an alleged violation of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act — a federal law that protects religious institutions from discriminatory land-use regulations.

Three seats are up for grabs on the Dumfries Town Council on November 3, and Ebony Lofton, the current President of the South Cove Homeowners Association, is running a write-in campaign to win one.

The Fredericksburg City Council passed an amendment to the city ordinance on petit larceny. With the move, the city’s code now matches Virginia State Code.

The Commonwealth of Virginia currently defines petit larceny as stealing from person money or anything of value of less than $5 or the value of goods unlawfully taken from a person.


Prince William

The Prince William County Police Department and the Manassas City Police Department will work together with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and other community groups for Prescription Drug Take-Back which will be held on October 24.

In addition to prescription and over-the-counter medications, residents can also turn in vape pens and e-cigarette devices for disposal.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors will start looking into new options that would give it more control over its local libraries.

The county recently withheld a portion of the $5.4 million of funding it gives annually to the Central Rappahannock Regional Library System due to its not reopening when library systems in surrounding counties began to reopen.
