From Stafford County fire and rescue: 

With winter just around the corner the Stafford Fire and Rescue Department, Stafford Professional Firefighters Association Local 4012, Stafford County Public Schools, Apple Federal Credit Union, Walmart and many others will partner to provide coats for Stafford County children in need.  With your  donation you can help relieve the burden of poverty and bring the gift of warmth to children in need.  To date, Operation Warm has given new winter coats to over 1.4 MILLION children throughout America. The new indoor pool opened to the public for the first time on Saturday. 

The Prince William County Aquatics Center at Charles Colgan Sr. High School offered free admission all day September 10. It was a chance for area residents to check out the new $11 million center complete with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, children’s pool, waterslide, and spectator area.

From the Stafford Sheriff’ Office: 

At approximately 10:30am this morning, multiple units from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Union 1st Market Bank located at 1044 Warrenton Rd for a report of a bank robbery. Bank employees reported that two suspects entered the bank, walked up to the teller windows and demanded cash. Both suspects displayed a firearm during the robbery. The suspects fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, through Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, Metrorail’s Orange Line trains will continuously single track between Vienna and West Falls Church Metrorail Stations during weekdays and complete station shut-downs will affect travelers during weekends.

From Prince William police: 

Armed Robbery *ARREST – On September 11, Darius Lamont DAVIS turned himself into police without incident at the Gar-Field Station in Woodbridge. The accused was wanted for a robbery which occurred in the 18000 block of Fraley Blvd in the Town of Dumfries on August 18. The investigation continues.


Opinion

The Prince William County Board of Supervisors will decide on Sept. 20, 2016 to allow Verizon Wireless to erect a 144-foot monopole for telecommunications at Prince of Peace United Methodist Church, located at 6299 Token Foreset Drive near Dale City. 

The Prince William County Planning Commission and staff say the pole is a good idea.

A local nonprofit civic group will host an event on Saturday, September 24 to show appreciation for local law enforcement and the entire community is invited. The Second Annual “We Love You Blue” community rally is hosted by the “We Love You Blue” organization to honor the Prince William County Police Department, Dumfries Police Department, U.S. Marshalls Office and Sheriff’s Department. The rally will take place at the VFW Post 1503 (14631 Minnieville Rd, Dale City, VA) from 11am to 1pm. No RSVP is required.
