A 26-year-old Stafford man was pulled from a wrecked car Tuesday and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The victim, Sean O’Driscoll, was driving a vehicle on Shelton Shop Road, near the Stafford Regional Airport, which struck a tree and collided with a fence.  He was extricated from the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Schools

Virginia lawmakers killed a proposal that would allow some special education students another year of instruction because of the struggles of virtual learning caused by COVID-19.

House Bill 2277 proposed that high school students with special needs who are set to graduate in the 2021 school year and who are 22 years old after Sept. 30, 2020, be allowed to take an extra year and graduate in 2022. Students who are younger than 22 are automatically eligible for another year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.


Politics

A judge in Virginia ordered a permanent ban on accepting ballots without postmarks after Election Day.

In a consent order dated January 13, 2021, signed by Judge William W. Eldridge IV, Presiding Judge of the Frederick County Circuit Court, the Virginia Board of Elections agreed to revise their regulations to bring them into compliance with Virginia law.


Obituaries

Mr. Lekites left this earth with a multitude of many friends and even more bowling friends. Mr. Lekites was one of the best bowlers ever in the Washington D.C. area. Mr. Lekites left a legacy as a great friend, human being, father, and one of this countries greatest assets being an Intelligence Analyst of 32 years with the Defense Intelligence Agency during the most crucial time in this countries history. He will be sorely missed by many of his co-workers and the entire Intelligence Community.


Prince William

The Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement 47th Session graduated on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, in a modified ceremony due to the pandemic at the Police Association Hall in Manassas. This class was composed of 29 Prince William County Police officers.

The 29 men and women completed a 24-week course of training in all aspects of police work, including classes in firearms, use-of-force decision making, driver training, legal training, patrol techniques, criminal investigation, and crash investigation.


Politics

Hala Ayala and Elizabeth Guzmán, two delegates who represent Prince William County, have formally announced a run for lieutenant governor. If successful, Ayala or Guzmán would become the first Latina to serve in the role.

The delegates were among the first Latina representatives elected to the state legislature during the wave of Democratic victories in 2017. Ayala and Guzmán ran for office to provide diversity in state government that more accurately represents the population in Prince William County where a quarter of residents are Latino; almost 25% are Black and nearly 10% are Asian, according to the U.S. Census.

We’ve been in close contact with Brett Gloss and other plaintiffs who filed the Freedom of Information Act legal complaint against the Prince William Board of County Supervisors Democratic majority regarding the Dems’ May 31 meeting that excluded the three Republican supervisors.
