Chamber honors police officers

Fairfax County, Va. –– Several Fairfax County Police officers were honored last week, including two who helped recover thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, police said.

Officers Christopher Burbrink and Ryan Lazisky won Officer of the Year awards on Oct. 1, after they investigated a string of crimes that occurred around the Springfield Mall, at an Ulta cosmetics store – where $7,000 worth of merchandise was stolen – as well as a Home Depot store on Franconia Road, said Fairfax County police spokesman Richard Henry. Few faces, fewer answers appear at Stafford HOT lanes meeting

VDOT hosted the event to allow citizens to view documents, maps, drawings, and reports that comprise the EA for the Interstate 95 HOT Lanes corridor.

The opportunity session was listed on the VDOT web site and public notices have been published in area newspapers.

Gov’t employee charged with assault

Prince William County, Va. –– A Prince William County Government employee was arrested Monday on charges of assault and battery, police said.

Police say the 47-year-old male victim from Manassas said he and the female suspect were involved in an argument which escalated at 6:27 p.m. Monday, in the 8100 block of Porter Ridge Lane in the Prince William County section of Manassas.

Man found at Metro station shot himself

Stafford: Bring us hazardous materials

Stafford County, Va. –– Got hazardous waste materials? Stafford County officials want you to know where to drop them off for free this weekend.

The Stafford County Landfill on Eskimo Hill Road will allow residents of the county and Fredericksburg to deposit hazardous waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, said Stafford spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.

Dale City, Va. –– One man faces charges after another man was shot in the foot Friday, police say.

Lavon Poynter, 31, is charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling and with use of a firearm in commission of a felony, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Schools eye relocating elementary students

Stafford, Va. –– Some elementary school students in Stafford County may be forced to change schools.

Public school officials will hold a series of public meetings this month on the proposed relocation of several elementary school students from Falmouth, Stafford, Moncure, Grafton Village and Ferry Farm elementary schools.

HOT lanes to be a topic at North Stafford meeting

The meeting will be held from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Moncure Elementary School, off Va. 610 in North Stafford.

The southern portion of the proposed toll lanes would be constructed between Dumfries and Massaponax in Spotsylvania County. The northern portion of the lanes would replace the existing High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, between Dumfries and the Pentagon. (more…)
