Six of the nine Sox had multi-hit games, headlined by Shannon Wilkerson and Dan Butler. Wilkerson had two hits, a three-run homer and four RBIs, while Butler went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs driven in.

The Nationals (28-39) committed three more errors to run their league-leading total to 83, and the Sox (30-37) cashed them in for four unearned runs en route to just their tenth win in their last 40 games.

The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue was honored with a Governor’s Transportation Safety Award for sending safety messages twice a day to all personnel through cell phones and email, reinforcing the county’s safety policies –– including the dangers of distracted and impaired driving.

“This is a dangerous job, but by sending out these messages is just one more tool in our toolbox to help a safer workplace,” said Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Chief Hadden Culp.

Motorists will soon enjoy shorter travel times from Prince William County into Fairfax County after the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) opens an additional northbound lane of Interstate 95 across the Occoquan River on Friday, June 17.

This portion of the northbound lanes stretches 2.5 miles from Route 123 to the Route 1. It is part of the final phase of the I-95 widening project.

Woodbridge, Va. –– Residents will now have a chance to touch a piece of the ill-fated World Trade Center.

Four pieces of steel from the buildings which collapsed on September 11, 2001 were trucked to Woodbridge on Thursday where they will eventually be displayed.

A bill proposed by Richard Anderson (Va–51, Lake Ridge, Prince William) requires drivers to stop for school buses loading and unloading children, and specifies a charge of reckless driving for those who fail to do so.  Honestly, my Driver’s Ed instructor must have lied to me because I didn’t realize those flashing stop signs were optional. 

Either way, though, I’m always happy to see children’s safety being ensured.
