Occoquan, Va. — It’s one of the most unique windows in Occoquan, and the business it belongs to is leaving the building behind for a new location across the street.

Polka Dot Divas opened in nearly four years ago by two diva-licious women, Julie Marshall and Kristyn Gleason, in Bavarian-style building with an iconic bubble window on its front. Recognizing the window’s popularity, the shop used it as part of their marketing on their website.

Woodbridge, Va. — The order for some Woodbridge residents to boil their water before consuming it has been lifted.

The Prince William Service Authority issued the order Friday after flood waters devastated the Holly Acres Mobile Home Park and surrounding businesses.

The residents of the houses at 116 and 118 Brush Everard Court called 911 to report the ground outside their home had shifted. Fire crews later found the retaining walls had failed and that there had been a significant shift in the ground, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.

Occupants in both homes were relocated and did not need assistance from the Red Cross, said Doyle.

Woodbridge, Va. — If you want to donate to the victims who lost their homes in Woodbridge during the floods you had better bring cash.

More than 300 people took refuge at a Red Cross shelter at Woodbridge Senior High School on Friday, and those still at the shelter have been moved to the nearby Sharon Baucom Dale City Rec Center.

Traffic

The washed out portion of track was in Franconia and halted service on the line Thursday, forcing VRE to find buses to take riders to stations further down the line.

CSX has been working around the clock since Thursday night on several areas of track that had been damaged by flooding. All tracks are now open; however, several temporary speed restrictions along the route are in effect. Similar to after working on the railroad as part of preventative maintenance, these slow orders will be in place until the track settles. This may take several days. Even so, we expect any delays that we experience to be minimal.

Once again the members of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department rose to the occasion assisting or making more than two-dozen water rescues. Headlines may not have made reference to OWL, but I can tell you that the citizens, other fire departments, the police department and local politicians all took note of the services you provided Thursday night.

On September 11 2001, within moments of the worst attacks on U.S. soil, the members of this great department left their jobs, said good-by to their families, stopped what they were doing and headed for our three stations. Every fire truck, ambulance and special piece was staffed and on the road. Our units were sent north to backfill other fire and rescue stations. Eventually, through continued station transfers and dispatches, some units end up at the Pentagon. Once again our members performed admirably to say the least, no matter what their role was that fateful day.
