Woodbridge, VA July 29, 2011 — 9:33pm Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters responded to the report of a boat fire at Hoffmaster’s Marina located at 1214 Swan Point Road, Woodbridge. OWL Engine 502 and Engine 514 arrived on the scene within minutes and found heavy fire from the port side of a boat, extending through the top deck. The fire had also spread to the canopy covering the dock, melting a hole in the aluminum roof.
The first engine crew positioned themselves to protect the adjacent boats and began a quick attack on the fire. The second crew attacked the canopy fire and protected the other nearby boats. Fire Boat 502 established a perimeter to check for hazardous materials leaking from the boat and provide a means of safety for the engine crews working on the dock. The fire was contained mostly to the midsection of the original boat with minor heat damage to a second boat. The fire was under control within 12 minutes.
It happened about 3 a.m. July 24, leaving the restaurant inside the Shops at County Center at Prince William Parkway and Hoadly Road with some shattered glass and a genuine whodunit case.
Police, who have been on the case for the past week, notified restaurant staff about the shattered window soon after it happened.
Dumfries will hold a special barbecue at 6 p.m. at the town’s community center. The event will highlight the importance of senior citizens’ role in helping police protect town residents and property.
Hot dogs fresh from the grill will be served and the first 25 participants will be given a free National Night Out t-shirt, according to a press release from town officials.
Sexual Assault
July 27th at 10:05AM, police responded to investigate a sexual assault which was reported to have occurred in the 5800 block of Rhode Island Dr in Woodbridge (22193). The investigation revealed that the victim, a 5 year old girl, had been sexually assaulted by the accused, a known acquaintance between June 2010 and December 2010. The accused was charged and arrested on July 27th.

Quantico, Va. — A plan to replace Quantico Middle / High School is in place, now it’s up to congress to provide the money.
In addition to Quantico Middle / High School, over the course of the next five years, the Department of Defense has plans to consolidate Russell Elementary School, Ashurst Elementary School and Burrows Elementary School at Quantico into one new elementary school facility.
Dumfries, Va. — Jeff Frederick will kick off his campaign for the Virginia Senate’s 36th District seat tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Dumfries.
The Republican will face challenger Tito Munoz in an August 23 primary, the winner of which will go onto face democratic incumbent Toddy Puller.
Dumfries, Va. ––Dumfries Town Manager Kim Alexander, who is leaving to become the town manager for Culpeper, confirmed that Daniel Taber, chief of the Dumfries police department, is being considered as an interim town manager. The town council will vote on the matter Aug. 2.
Taber said that, if chosen, he will accept the position and Robert Forker, who is the police department’s administrative manager, will become interim police chief. Taber added that he expects the search for a permanent town manager to take about three months.
The heat is on once more as the mercury is expected to climb above the century mark today.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that goes into effect at 11 a.m. and will last through 9 p.m.
