Seven Stafford Schools were among the 447 in Virginia to earn 2012 Virginia Index of Performance awards for advanced learning and achievement. The incentive program recognizes schools and divisions that far exceed minimum state and federal accountability standards and achieve excellence goals established by the governor and the board.

Garrisonville Elementary received the 2012 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence by meeting all state and federal achievement benchmarks for the last two consecutive years and achieving all applicable excellence goals.

The Washington Post reports that in the war between tailgaters and Jiffy Lube Life, the tailgaters won. The common practice of barbequing before shows at the popular venue will continue this summer.

Rail officials want purse strings loosened
The Washington Examiner reports Dulles Rail officials are headed to Richmond to get Gov. Robert F. McDonnell to ease up on restrictions placed on $150 million promised to the project, which include the project does not mandate union labor.

Woodbridge, Va. — The Virginia GOP’s plan to make Primary voters sign a party loyalty oath has drawn the ire of not only the governor, but a local politician.

Del. Richard Anderson denounced the loyalty oath plan approved in December by the Virginia Republican Party that would require voters to sign a form in order to vote in the March 6 GOP Primary Election stating they would remain loyal to the party.

The latest burglary occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at the Ramoth Baptist Church in the 400 block of Ramoth Church Road. An employee of the church came to work Wednesday and noticed a laptop computer lying in the entrance way to her office, then saw the church had been burglarized, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Four flatscreen TVs, several laptop computers, and a camera were taken from the church. Investigators said a window was kicked open which allowed the intruder access.
