The Virginia Transit Association (VTA) announced that it has selected the Potomac Rappahannock Transit Company (OmniRide) as the recipient of the “Celebrating Success” award at its awards luncheon held in Fairfax, Virginia on May 18, for their “25th Anniversary Celebration” program.

In September 2011, the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, PRTC, marked its 25th anniversary with a month-long celebration focusing on three separate audiences in the Prince William County area: the general community, passengers and staff members, and state and local dignitaries.

MANASSAS, Va. –– It was a night of joviality and recognition at the 23rd annual Steak ‘n’ Stake Dinner at the Boys & Girls Club in Manassas. The event, which serves as the Boys & Girls Club’s biggest yearly fundraiser, with paid tickets for a steak dinner, a silent auction, and giveaways, helped the Club to raise $40,000.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Heavy rains Monday night washed out a portion of Aden Road in Prince William County.

The two-lane road links Independent Hill with Va. 28 in Nokesville, and is a popular back road for drivers headed toward Manassas or Fauquier County.

WILMINGTON, Del. – Behind a stellar start from Greg Billo, the Wilmington Blue Rocks shut out the Potomac Nationals 7-0 at Frawley Stadium on Monday night. The Blue Rocks held the Nationals to just two-hits in their first meeting of the season in Delaware.

Against P-Nats starter Matt Swynenberg, Wilmington opened the scoring in the third inning. Juan Graterol led off the inning with a double and scored on a Whit Merrifield double to give the Rocks a 1-0 lead. Brian Fletcher knocked in Merrifield to increase the lead to 2-0 for Wilmington.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Authorities in Stafford County are investigating a bizarre home invasion in the Widewater Village neighborhood.

Sheriff Charles E. Jett said a man, woman, and their 10-month-old child were awaked about 12:30 a.m. Monday to two masked men who had entered their home. One of the men wielded a knife and demanded the family to go into their garage.

FROM POLICE REPORTS:

Rape / Aggravated Sexual Battery – On April 23rd, police began an investigation into two sexual assaults which were reported to have occurred in the 14200 block of Lindendale Rd in Woodbridge (22193) between 2004 and 2006. The investigation revealed that the victims, a 5-8 year old girl and a 7-10 year old girl at the time of the offenses, were both sexually assaulted by the accused, a known family member, on several occasions during the time frame above. Following an investigation, warrants were obtained against the accused who was located and arrested in Fredericksburg on May 17th. The accused is currently awaiting transport back to Prince William County.
