STAFFORD, Va. — The Stafford Board of Supervisors and Stafford’s 350th Blue Ribbon Committee are announcing the grand opening of Celebration Stage at Pratt Park on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. The event will include a family festival, a ribbon cutting and live performances to herald an artistic renaissance for Stafford County. The stage was built in honor of Stafford’s 350th anniversary this year and is Stafford’s first covered amphitheater. It will be able to host performing arts, theatrical and dance events, concerts, movies and other large-scale events, contributing to Stafford’s economic development and tourism efforts.

“The 350th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee set out to leave a lasting mark with our commemoration this year, and Celebration Stage will help create that legacy in Stafford,” said Harry Crisp, Chairman of the 350th Anniversary Blue Ribbon Committee. “The stage will nurture artistic expression and help us foster community spirit among our residents.”

MANASSAS, Va. –– There will be a flash mob in Manassas Mall on Saturday.

Northern Virginia Community College’s dance team will stage the impromptu dance inside the college’s Global Learning Center, which is now located inside the shopping mall. Students are invited to be part of the flash mob.

LORTON, Va. — Fort Belvoir’s Commander Gregory D. Gadson will retire from his post in September; on the heels of what he said could be another round of base closures and realignments.

While there is no official talk of such a move, Gadson said Friday he thinks another round of BRAC, the Base Realignment and Closure commission as its referred to by federal officials, is a real possibility.

Whoever wins tomorrow’s Republican Primary will face Democrat Norm Mosher in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District.

Incumbent Rob Wittman, R, is facing fellow Republican Anthony Riedel in primary tomorrow. Wittman has held the postion for about 8 years, but Ridel says he can do a better job in Washington representing a sprawling district that spans from Prince William County in its northernmost reaches to Williamsburg to the east.

Lawrence Junior “JR” Shillingburg, II, age 37 died at his residence in Gainesville, VA on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

Survivors include his mother Pamela Shillingburg; his father Lawrence Shillingburg and wife Tara; one brother Charles Shillingburg and wife Mandi; a nephew Silas; his aunts Nancy Bolton and husband Johnny and Ruth Newcomer; his uncles Larry Sendaj and wife Candy, Barry Sendaj and wife Vicky, Ron Shillingburg and wife Joy and Steve Shillingburg and wife Lori. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

She was born on August 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York at daughter of the late Thomas and Olive Ellis. She was a retired administrator in the cargo shipping industry.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 9325 West St., Manassas with Rev. Vinnie officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax.
