After seven long years, Occoquan’s kayak ramp project is nearing completion.
In 2013, Occoquan was awarded a grant through the Federal Highway Administration’s Recreational Trails Program.

The Dumfries Town Council voted unanimously to hold a public hearing on September 15 for the renaming of Confederate Court to Liberty Lane.
The street is home to a row of townhouses located a tenth of a mile from town hall.

Prince William County is expected to see a sharp rise in the number of early voters and mail-in ballots for the November 2020 election, according to a presentation by general registrar Michele White.
Earlier this year, the Virginia General Assembly passed a no-excuse early voting law which allows people to vote early both in-person and via mail ballot without providing an excuse for doing so.

Dumfries has been late when it comes to paying its bills on time. In one instance, the town was 10 months late, apparently.
Back in August of 2019, the town received an invoice from Axon Enterprises for $23,000 worth of tasers that were sent to the Dumfries Town Police Department.

Occoquan approved its Fiscal Year 2021 budget, but, according to Mayor Earnie Porta, the budget is almost certain to change as the fiscal year progresses.
“At this time there is nothing in particular that I would highlight. We adopted a budget recognizing that in all likelihood it would need to be amended during the year as conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic develop,” Porta said.

Occoquan is using some of the $94,000 that it received in federal CARES Act funding to provide grants to small businesses in need of immediate financial assistance.
These microgrants may be used for employee salaries and benefits, and other capital and operating expenses directly related to the immediate impacts of the coronavirus.

West worked on the Planning Commission before resigning in February due to an upcoming move.

Occoquan has made some changes to its 2020 events calendar in order to keep visitors and residents safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
Here is the revised calendar as of now:
