Students at C.D. Hylton High School were held inside the school building until about 5 p.m. Tuesday. The school was in “secure the building” mode while police looked for a gun that was fired inside the building the school day.
GAINESVILLE — A softball field is now dedicated to a 10-year-old girl who died in a freak accident.
On Saturday, the family and friends of Lydia Grace gathered at Catharpin Park near Gainesville to rename field number four in honor of the late child. During a storm in August, a tree fell on Lydia’s grandmother’s house in Fauquier County, landing in the child’s bedroom, killing her.

DALE CITY — A park in Dale City will be rededicated this weekend to a man who served the community longer than anyone else on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.
The 21.5 acre John D. Jenkins Park will receive a bright new entry sign, along with updated signage inside the park. The pavilions are slated for a fresh coat of paint and the parking lot will get new stripes.
