NORTH STAFFORD — Fire and rescue crews pulled a man from a ravine on Monday night.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was walking with his 10-year-old daughter in a wooded behind Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School on Duffey Drive in North Stafford about 6:19 p.m. when the man fell down an embankment and injured his leg.
MANASSAS — Police are on the scene of a shooting on Liberia Avenue in Manassas.
There are few details right now. The city’s police department issued this statement:
JAMES MICHAEL BENDA, 61, of Catlett, passed away on August 7, 2019, with his family at his side.
“Jimbo”, as he was known by his close friends, was an Army Brat born in Okinawa, Japan, December 1, 1957, to Ronald and Delores Benda.

STAFFORD — A total of 29,000 students in Stafford County headed back to class today. It was the first time the school division started classes before Labor Day.
In North Stafford, students entered the new Anne. E. Moncure Elementary School, which sits about a mile from the old school on Garrisonville Road. The new 107,000 square foot building has 43 classrooms and is able to hold 890 students with 120 staff members.
DALE CITY – (Press Release) Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) structure and bridge crews are on schedule towards completion on work to replace a large stormwater pipe on Princedale Drive that failed after heavy rains on July 4, causing a sinkhole.
The road is expected to reopen to traffic between Saddler Lane and Roundtree Drive in about two weeks, weather permitting.
STAFFORD COUNTY — A 14-year-old boy is in trouble with authorities who said he stole a firearm and pointed it at a young girl in a neighborhood.

DALE CITY — (Press Release) The Dale City “LIGHTNING” Track Club (DCTC) was named the 2019 National Track and Field Club of the Year by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
The award was based on the team’s outstanding success and merit working with today’s youth and tomorrow’s stars. The award was presented during the AAU 2019 National Junior Olympic Games held in Greensboro, N.C. The 2019 National Junior Olympic games had over 13,000 youth participants, making the event the largest youth track and field event in the world.
