The victims told investigators that a man and woman broke into the their home in the 900 block of Anvil Road in south Stafford, near Interstate 95 and U.S. 17, at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Once inside, the man pointed a handgun at the residents, ordered them from the middle floor of the home to the basement then to lie on the floor, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

In this week’s Friday Finds: It’s your chance to see a classic 80s movie outdoors, see a classic 80s rock band perform, and learn where you can take your children to a place where they can have fun and mom and dad can have a Friday night to themselves.

Finding something fun to do in the summer of 1983 was not easy.  Our options were limited.  The highlight at that time was the Dale City Skating Rink on Smoketown Road. For the most part, we were left to our own survival skills and imagination to occupy our days.

It was during this time that we were introduced to McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets.  One afternoon my best friend Tracey and I walked seven miles to the only McDonalds in the area to get a 20 piece order of McNuggets.  The joy was in the journey.  On our walk we talked, and sang and I believe a little dancing occurred.  I am sure we are a legend, somewhere. A rare form of cancer hasn’t stopped Nicholas Stepaniak from becoming one of the country’s top emergency call takers.

Stephaniak was honored late last month in Texas as the top public-safety communications trainer in the nation. Working from Stafford County’s Public Safety Communications Center, when he takes a call about a house fire, car crash, theft or robbery, the person making that call is probably having one of the worst days of their lives.
