The victims told investigators that a man and woman broke into the their home in the 900 block of Anvil Road in south Stafford, near Interstate 95 and U.S. 17, at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Once inside, the man pointed a handgun at the residents, ordered them from the middle floor of the home to the basement then to lie on the floor, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

Fire crews were called at 12:29 a.m. to 33 Clover Hill Drive, off Mountain View Road, for a report of a fire at a single family home.
Crews entered the home and found flames had already engulfed the second floor, according to Stafford County spokeswoman Cathy Riddle. (more…)

Tranist officials will hold a public meeting at noon Saturday at the South County Center, at 8350 Richmond Highway, to discuss a newly proposed bus route, route 159.
Finding something fun to do in the summer of 1983 was not easy. Our options were limited. The highlight at that time was the Dale City Skating Rink on Smoketown Road. For the most part, we were left to our own survival skills and imagination to occupy our days.
It was during this time that we were introduced to McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets. One afternoon my best friend Tracey and I walked seven miles to the only McDonalds in the area to get a 20 piece order of McNuggets. The joy was in the journey. “The Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department recommends that all park users heed this warning and stay out of the heat,” stated a county press release.

Stafford County school officials will extend the search for their next superintendent through September.
At Tuesday’s school board meeting, officials announced they will continue the search for the next controller through Sept. 30.
A rare form of cancer hasn’t stopped Nicholas Stepaniak from becoming one of the country’s top emergency call takers.
Stephaniak was honored late last month in Texas as the top public-safety communications trainer in the nation. Working from Stafford County’s Public Safety Communications Center, when he takes a call about a house fire, car crash, theft or robbery, the person making that call is probably having one of the worst days of their lives.
