Stafford, Va. — After replacing two people on his campaign staff, Jason Pelt says he’s now working with people who knew him before he wanted to be Stafford’s top prosecutor.

The Republican, who currently works as a defense attorney, says the two campaign workers were more interested advancing their political agendas and not Pelts, and are no longer with the campaign.

North Stafford, Va. — The harmful algal blooms that have prompted warnings to residents along Aquia Creek could be around for a while.

If humans or pets are exposed to the blooms and creek water is ingested, people can experience abdominal pain, jaundice, malaise, and pets can die. The blue-green algae blooms are common in waters in the Potomac Communities and can also be found in the Potomac River and Neabsco Creek.

Woodbridge, Va. — There is more fallout today over Jeff Frederick declining to debate Tito Munoz in Spanish.

On Monday, Munoz’s campaign stated Frederick declined to debate the Columbian-immigrant in a Spanish-only debate despite the fact Frederick claims Hispanic decent. Munoz’s campaign went onto claim Frederick’s Dumfries-based IT business, GSX Strategies, benefited in dealings with the federal government by having the status of a disadvantaged, minority-owned business.


On July 30th at 11:38PM, police responded to the 1400 block of Milbank Rd in Woodbridge (22191) for an assault. The victim, a 22 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, the accused allegedly struck the victim in the face several times before fleeing the residence. The accused also broke a picture frame and door, valued around $200 before leaving. The victim was transported to an area hospital for her injuries. The accused was arrested on July 31st without further incident.

Prince William

Tires and rims were stolen from cars in multiple cases.

VRE / Commuter Lot Vehicle Larcenies
Since early July 2011, there have been several reports of tire and rim larcenies from vehicles parked in commuter lots and garages at area VRE and commuter locations. These larcenies have been reported to have occurred during the day hours, 6:30AM to 4:00PM, while vehicle owners have been at work. Police have increased their patrols and continue to monitor the area commuter and VRE lots within Prince William County. Commuters are urged to report suspicious activity to the police at 703-792-6500. See individual releases below.


Politics

Congressman Gerry Connolly will auto-dial thousands of constituents beginning Thursday at 8 p.m. for his next telephone town hall meeting.

The calls will ask residents in Prince William and Fairfax counties if they want to participate in the one-hour conference, and if they choose to do so, they are invited to asked the congressmen questions on any topic.
