WGRQ plays classic rock on 95.9 FM, and WGRX plays country music on 104.5 FM, and the company that owns them both, Telemedia Broadcasting, wants to move its transmitter from King George County to southern Stafford County.

The newly proposed tower would stand 480 feet tall, just 75 feet shorter the Washington Monument in the nation’s capital, and would be located at 494 Hollywood Farm Road – a rural area of Stafford County.

“We’re well on our way to a million customers signing up for the most convenient and cheapest way to receive decal and license renewal alerts,” said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. “We applaud these Virginians for helping to save the Commonwealth money and resources.”

The 750,000 customers who are no longer receiving paper reminders via U.S. mail will save the state $442,000. Each piece of U.S. mail not processed by DMV saves 59 cents in printing, processing and postage fees.

Conservative media outlet Bearing Drift is reporting the Republican Party of Virginia has notified the State Board of Elections they will rescind their request to require voters in the upcoming March 6 Primary Election to sign a pledge to vote Republican in November’s General Election.

The first segment in the latest edition of “School Focus” looks at Volunteer Prince William’s Un-Trim a Tree Holiday Gift Program, which ensured that thousands of children in the Prince William community had gifts for the holidays.

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) employees helped coordinate the program and adopted hundreds of kids as well. The second segment of “School Focus” shows how the location of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, in Quantico, is a valuable resource for PWCS educators, with a teacher in residence at the museum an additional benefit.

In a year when state parks across Virginia saw near record attendance, and hosted more overnight campers than any other year in their 75-year history, park officials are taking a bow.

“Hurricanes and tornados briefly closed a number of parks, in some cases for several weeks, and yet our daily attendance was the second highest in history, only a modest decline from 2010,” said Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation State Parks Director Joe Elton in an email statement. “In fact, our daily attendance increased in nearly half of our 35 parks. Virginia State Parks remain a primary vacation destination for millions of people looking for affordable opportunities to enjoy Virginia’s great outdoors.”


The 18-year-old male victim was in the 16900 block of Point Pleasant Lane off Allen Dent Road when we was approached by a man who hit him in the head with what, police said, appeared to be a handgun.

The victim fell to the ground and two other males surrounded him and took an undisclosed amount of cash and pizzas from the victim, said Prince William police.
