RICHMOND, Va. – Applications from young women and men ages 14-17 to participate in a statewide service program are being accepted by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

DCR is accepting applications for two three-week sessions of the award-winning Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), scheduled June 24 to July 14 and July 22 to Aug. 11.

The House adjourned at 3 p.m. [Friday] and concluded our eighth week of the 2012 legislative session of the General Assembly—and we did so with bi-partisan approval of House Bill (HB) 1301, the proposed two-year $85 billion budget that runs from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014.

Prince William County, Va. –– The Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) will hold its State Convention on Saturday, June 2 at the Patriot Center at George Mason University. Prince William County will have 111 delegates and 22 alternates at the state convention. They will be elected at a countywide caucus to be held on Saturday, April 21st from noon to 4 p.m. at the McCoart Government Center.

Any Democrat who is a registered voter in Prince William County is eligible to run for delegate or alternate to the state convention. There is a $25 filing fee and persons interested in running must pre-file with Harry Wiggins, Chairman of the Prince William County Democratic Committee (PWCDC), by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16.

Woodbridge, Va. — Prince William County school teachers banded together to protest the lack of pay raises over the next three years.

In cold and rainy weather, about 200 participants at the “Rally for a World Class Education” lined sidewalks at the heavily traveled intersection of Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road holding signs stating “no teacher left behind” and “support Prince William teachers.”

Woodbridge, Va. — It appears a strike that would have grounded transit buses in Prince William County has been averted.

Officials at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission announced late Friday afternoon that its contracted operator, First Transit, Inc., had reached a new tentative agreement with its union, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees or AFSCME.
