PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Leaders in Prince William County have come up with a way to help keep their community clean. They call the neighborhood clean-up program Dumpster Days, where throughout the spring and summer residents are invited to bring their trash to a collection site where, yes, a dumpster is waiting to be filled with junk.
Cathy Holtzlander, who works in Prince William’s Neighborhood Services office, sent us some numbers that show just how much trash was collected during this year’s Dumpster Days:
Yorkshire Area Cleanup ~ Emmanuel Baptist Church 2 Dumpsters ~ 1.12 tons
Town of Quantico 2 Dumpsters ~ 3.44 tons
Thousand Oaks Townhome Association (TOTA) 2 Dumpsters & 2 truckloads ~ 3.68 tons
Route 1 Litter Pickup in Partnership with KPWB 1080 lbs. or .48 tons
Woodbridge Civic Association (Featherstone Elementary) 6 Dumpsters ~ 13.36 tons
Irongate Area Cleanup 2 Dumpsters ~ 5.16 tons
Dale City Area Cleanup 2 Dumpsters ~ 2.59 tons
Sudley Area Cleanup ~ Sudley Elementary School 3 Dumpsters ~ 5.46 tons
Yorkshire Area Cleanup ~ Emmanuel Baptist Church 2 Dumpsters ~ 2.13 tons
There’s just one more Dumpster Day scheduled, according to Holtzlander, and it’ll be in Dumfries, from 8 a.m. until noon on Sept. 13. You can call the town’s public works department to volunteer at 703-221-3400 to help collect trash on that day.
