Kenneth John Oliver

Kenneth John Oliver, age 67, of Woodbridge, VA passed February 16, 2014 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was the eldest son of Robert and Rita (Willock) Oliver who survive him. He was born December 11, 1946 in Washington, DC.

He graduated from Suitland High School, MD in 1964. He was a Combat Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for two years which included a tour in South Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of the State of New York (now Excelsior College), and then graduated from the University of Virginia with a Master’s Degree in Land Use and Environmental Planning.

Ken worked in private sector civilian engineering companies prior to his federal service career as a real estate planner for the Department of Navy/United States Marine Corps at Quantico MCB, VA. He retired in October 2012 after 25 years of service.

Ken loved classic cars. In high school, he entered a model car magazine contest which featured his design “The Four-Eyed Vicky” on the cover of the magazine.

Ken is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Bonita (Bonnie) McCarthy Oliver, Ed.D. of Woodbridge, VA; his parents Robert and Rita Oliver of Clearwater, Fl; his brother Michael (Linda) of Spring Hill, Fl; his sister Cathy Oliver and his niece Sara Oliver of Dunedin, Fl.

For his love of animals, donations may be made to the Prince William County Virginia Animal Shelter or to any animal charity of one’s choice.
