Reversible Lanes Closing Later Weekday Mornings

There are new changes in the times the HOV lanes on Interstate 95 and 395 on weekday mornings.

Here’s more in a press release:

Beginning October 15,the reversible high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on northbound I-395/I-95 will close during the week at 11 a.m. rather than 10 a.m. The southbound HOV lanes will open to traffic by 1 p.m.

The recent schedule, where the lanes were closed and the direction reversed at 10 a.m. has helped ease congestion on I-95 southbound to accommodate VDOT’s routine summer road maintenance work, as well as intensified construction on several major improvement projects along I-395 and I-95 including the 95 Express Lanes, 95 Shoulder Lane project in Prince William County, and BRAC related work in the I-395/Seminary Road area.

The lanes, which allow vehicles with three or more occupants to travel north toward Washington each weekday between 6 and 9 a.m., close during the late morning hours so crews can clear the lanes and reopen them in the southbound direction for commuters returning home each weekday afternoon in vehicles of three or more occupants, between 3 and 6 p.m.
