NOKESVILLE, Va. — The water is too high for construction crews to complete scheduled work on a bridge over the Cedar Run in this weekend in Prince William County.
A portion of Aden Road was to be closed this weekend, from Parkgate Drive to Orlando Road in Nokesville, so crews could continue to process of replacing the bridge But heavy rains overnight have swollen the Cedar Run and put water levels higher than normal, said Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Joan Morris.
The work has been postponed until next weekend July 20 and 21, and variable message board signs warning drivers up of the road closure have been changed to reflect the postponement.
Several inches of rain fell across the region overnight causing flood warnings to be issued. Just after 9 a.m., most of Prince William, Fairfax, and Fauquier counties, and Washington, D.C. were under a flash flood warning. Rain is expected to dominate the weather today, while showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the weekend.
