Fire Rips Through Recycling Plant

MANASSAS, Va. — Fire crews were called to a recycling facility on Notes Drive near Manassas early this morning.

They found a blaze in one of the processing units off of Balls Ford Road about 3:45 a.m. It took about an hour for crews do douse the fire because crews had limited access to interior portions of the processing facility, said Prince William fire and rescue spokeswoman Kim Hylander.

Sprinkler heads that activated during the fire helped fire crews in battling the blaze. It took two hours to overhaul the building, added Hylander.

The cause of the fire was labeled accidental, and flames ignited by heat generated from components on the processing equipment.

The fire caused $100,000 in damage to the recycling plant.
