County to open new center for child sex abuse victims

Children who have been the victims of sexual assault, and those who have been beaten and abused will have a new place to turn.

Prince William County will convert the office space of Woodbridge District Supervisor Marget Franklin, in the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building, into a new office it's calling the Child Advocacy Center, a first of its kind in the county. Next to Northern Virginia Community College, Franklin's office will be relocated into the nearby Neabsco Commons building.

There were 2,480 investigations conducted by the county's Child Protective Services unit in 2020, with 259 children found to be the victims of sex or physical abuse, according to Phyllis Jennings Holt, the assistant director with the child protective services office.
