QUANTICO, Va. — Thanks to the popularity of television shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, the Quantico Middle/High School drama department put on their own talent show, called “Quantico’s Got Talent,” in the school’s auditorium on March 2.
The faculty decided that, to help prevent “Senioritis,” the seniors should have a higher responsibility, when it comes to events like this. Seniors were running nearly everything from stage management and ticket sales, to video and house management. Quinn, a senior was the host of the event.
“We are going to get a lot of laughs,” Quinn said. “This event is going to turn out great.”
The judges were Derrick, a senior; Jose, a junior; Sydney, a sophomore; and Adrewn, a freshman, all the representatives of their grade. They provided comedic relief here and there, when needed throughout the show.
The faculty Kazoo Band started the show playing a snippet of Strauss’ “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” also known as the theme from “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which was the perfect ice breaker that had the students and parents laughing for more.
Throughout the show, there were acts for everyone. There was dancing, that made everyone clap to the beat. There were talented vocalist who had people wondering “Where did that come from?” Two pianists had people standing and applauding. Even a famous Youtube hit, “Chocolate rain,” was sung.
There was a skit towards of the end of the show, where a student dressed as Superman interrupted Quinn for a couple of brief moments, while he was trying to announce the next performer. Lucky for Quinn, security quickly tackled the student and hauled him off stage, a stunt which the audience loved.
It seems that, just as Quinn hinted before the start of the show, the event turned out fantastic.
“The talent show showed off a lot of great talent from the Quantico Middle/High School students,” said Daniel Mulhern, the principle of the school. “I especially like the beginning with faculty Kazoo Band,” he chuckled.
