Stafford County, Va. — Investigators in Stafford released a composite sketch of the man they say tried to rape a woman late last month.
The attack happened Nov. 27 in a wooded area off Shasta Place in the England Run neighborhood of Stafford County, said sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The 22-year-old victim had been at the nearby Porter Library when she began receiving calls on her cell phone from a person she did not know. The caller blocked the number from appearing on the victim’s phone, and during the call he asked if he could meet her but the woman declined, said Kennedy.
A short time later, the victim left the library and walked to a friend’s house on nearby Shasta Place. Once she got there, the woman stepped outside the home to use her cell phone and was approached by a man who brandished a gun, said Kennedy.
He forced the woman into a wooded area, punched her, and then tried to rape her, said Kennedy. She was able to fend off her attacker by kicking him.
The man ran after the woman, punched her and then tried to choke her. Then, the man’s cell phone rang, he answered, and fled the scene.
The victim’s friend took her to a police station in Fredericksburg, and the case was handed over to Stafford authorities since the attack occurred in that county, and was originally reported by the sheriff’s department Nov. 28.
The man is described as black, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, in his thirties, with short, tight hair twists and thick, busy eyebrows. He also has scaring along the cheek, possibly from acne, with facial hair on the chin, said Kennedy.
