Search Called Off for 2 in Crash

Dale City, Va. – The search for two men who escaped the wreckage of a car police had been pursuing Friday afternoon has been called off.

A the two men, along with another, were riding inside a Chevrolet Impala that was being pursued by police when the car pulled into a rest stop along Interstate 95 north in Dale City, weaved through the parking lot and then made an attempt to get back onto the highway. As they did, a tractor trailer clobbered the car trapping one person while the other two escaped.

After a few hours of searching a wooded area near the rest stop, Virginia State Police called off their search about 7 p.m. Friday, said VSP spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The trapped victim was pulled from the wreckage and flown to an area hospital but two others remain on the loose.

It all started Friday afternoon when police in Fredericksburg got a call about a larceny at a Walmart store in the Central Park shopping area. Two men were spotted at the store shoplifting a TV and a computer, said Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.

A “be on the look out” was posted and a Virginia State Trooper spotted the Impala headed north on I-95 in Stafford County. The trooper pursued the car until the rest stop in Dale City where it crashed.

The men were described as black, wearing blue jeans, with one of them wearing a green sweatshirt, said Geller.
