Cops Called on Paving Crew

Stafford, Va. — A woman got an early and unwanted Christmas gift over the weekend, and then sheriff’s deputies were called.

A woman told police three men were in her neighborhood on Hope Road in Stafford about 1:15 p.m. Saturday and offered to repave her driveway. The woman initially said no but the men then drastically dropped the price of their services and went to work, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

When the woman’s son showed up he began to ask questions, said Kennedy. The men were unable to provide ID or a business card, and when the son asked the men why they were using millings – a cheaper form of gravel – on the driveway they stopped working, said “Merry Christmas,” and fled, said Kennedy.

The men were driving a dump truck with Maryland tags.

All three are described as white, the first was between 6 feet 3 to 6 feet 4 inches tall with curly black hair. The second was said to be 5 feet 5 inches tall with blonde hair and the third 5 feet 6 inches with scruffy hair, said Kennedy.

Investigators ask if anyone may have come in contact with the men to call Stafford County Crime Solvers.
