EXCLUSIVE: Crane worker pulled to safety during high-angle rescue

BRISTOW — Rescue crews lowered an injured construction worker tall crane.

In what Prince William County rescue officials called a high-angle rescue, the injured worker placed in a basket and lowered from a crane towering over a new data center that’s under construction outside Manassas.

Once on the ground, the worker was flown to an area hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, said Prince William Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Chief Matt Smolksy.

Rescue crews were called to the worksite in the 9700 blocks of Hornbaker Road, near Route 28, at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday.

The tall yellow crane is one of four in the vicinity. In addition to the new data center, an $3 billion expansion of nearby Micron Technologies is underway. It’s the largest economic development deal in Virginia history, will bring 1,100 new employees who will produce computer chips for driverless vehicles.
