MANASSAS — The Hylton Performing Arts Center announced its lineup of 2019 Summer Performances for Young Audiences.
Performances this summer include an offering of entertainment for families and children to enjoy the arts together. From the family-friendly songs of Justin Roberts, to magic tricks by Max Darwin, and the athletic and mesmerizing stunts of the Jabali African Acrobatics, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Justin Roberts

The summer kicks off at the Hylton Center with indie music family favorite Justin Roberts in a concert that captures the joys and struggles of navigating childhood and parenthood. Robert’s rise to musical success sounds like the inspiration for School of Rock—after performing with the indie folk-rock band, Pimentos for Gus, he picked up a teaching gig at a Montessori preschool and began writing and singing songs for his students, who love his sound and message. Since 1997, Roberts has devoted himself to writing and performing family-friendly music, and he has earned three Grammy Award nominations, released 12 albums, and appeared on the Today Show and Nick Jr. TV. With hit songs like “Recess,” “Lemonade,” and “Stay-At-Home-Dad,” Roberts is creating a witty, endearing, and relatable soundtrack about family life and growing up. “He has a remarkable ability to see through a child’s eyes… the Judy Blume of kiddie rock,” (New York Times).

Meet Max Darwin, AKA “The Amazing Max,” who will leave the whole family breathless with his gravity-defying magic tricks, quirky humor, and boundless energy. A born entertainer, Max first appeared on stage before he could walk! In addition to performing live magic shows, he can be seen as a featured artist on Seasons three and four of Brain Games (National Geographic Channel) and magic consultant for Gotham (Fox) and American’s Got Talent (NBC). Bring your imagination and sense of wonder for what The New York Times calls, “A little bit of heaven” and PBS Kids proclaims, “An awesome and hilarious live magic show!”
Jabali African Acrobats

Direct from Mombasa, Kenya, experience “Sirikas,” or African circus performance that combines Chinese and African acrobatic stunts in a high-octane show with percussive music, tumbling, limbo, dancing, and balance arts native to Africa. The Jabali African Acrobats will showcase the exciting union between athletic skill and graceful artistry as they thrill with the Congo Snake Dance, the Flaming Limbo Bar Dance, and their signature Skip Rope Footwork techniques. The troupe has performed all over the world at major arts festivals, NBA and College halftimes, and tour regularly with the Harlem Globetrotters. “Kenya’s high energy super circus” (The Tribune).
Tickets to the Summer Performances for Young Audiences are $15 for adults and $10 for children. The Hylton Performing Arts Center is located at 10960 George Mason Circle in Manassas.
