75 volunteers pull 470 pounds of trash from Quantico Creek

DUMFRIES — The Town of Dumfries is continuing its commitment to ensuring a safe and clean Quantico Creek.

Last month, over 75 volunteers attended an annual Quantico Creek Clean Up event. The volunteers collected over 470 pounds of trash, including 38 tires.

Volunteers included local Boy Scout Troop # 1476, members of the U.S. Army Reserve, Minor Football League members, representatives of Prince William County Water and Soil Conservation District, and Town residents and businesses.

Efforts by volunteers help to support ongoing creek restoration projects with funding from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the town is taking action to improve the environmental health and biodiversity for residents and visitors of Quantico Creek while also mitigating flood risk to provide a safe and clean waterway.

Founded in 1749, Dumfries is the oldest, continuously-chartered town in Virginia.
