Alexandria man charged in fatal Woodbridge shooting

WOODBRIDGE — (Press Release)  Murder Investigation – On March 3 at 12:39AM, officers responded to the area of Rippon Blvd. and Jefferson Davis Hwy. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shooting.

The investigation revealed that while in a nearby parking lot the victim and the suspect were engaged in an argument that escalated. During the encounter, a firearm was brandished and the victim was shot.

The suspect fled the area on foot while uninvolved residents aided to the victim. Officers arrived on scene and began CPR on the victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers were also able to obtain suspect information from witnesses.

Officers in the area located a person matching the description and subsequently detained him without further incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later that morning.

The firearm was recovered. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Markus Sean Thurman DEAN, was arrested prior to the victim’s passing and charged in the shooting. Additional charges are expected following the victim’s death.
