WOODBRIDGE — Prince William officials want to give the county’s water tanks a makeover.
A new Prince William County wordmark will be painted on the sides of Service Authority water tanks throughout the county.
“Certain tanks may need a different type of artwork based on the size, dimension, or way it’s laid out,” said county spokesman Jason Grant.
The wordmark on the tanks will say “Prince William County.” The county will be responsible for paying to put the artwork onto the water tanks, but they won’t have to pay for other maintenance elements such as the cost of paint.
The Prince William County wordmark will be added to the water tanks as they are repainted, and as new tanks are constructed over time. There will be as many as two tanks per year that will need to be refurbished.
The water tanks are inspected at the beginning of each year under the Capital Improvement Program. Putting artwork on the tanks will cost the Board around $10,000 annually until all of the tanks have been painted at a cost of $4,000 and $10,000 per tank.
New wordmarks will appear on 14 possible water tanks, out of the 19 in the county, to be painted. Of these 14, four of them are being considered to have the logo printed on both sides of the tank.
The majority of the tanks will feature the new design on one side, while four tanks will have the new logo on both. A list of all tanks, including the ones not slated to get the new design was included in county documents.
Water tanks were chosen based on their proximity to major roadways, gateways, and tourist areas.
In a unanimous vote, the Board of County Supervisors authorized the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Prince William County Service Authority and the Board of County Supervisors that gives the go-ahead for the logo to be placed on the water tanks.
Last spring, the Board of Supervisors tasked put Grant in charge of redesigning the county’s logo, which is separate from the county seal that is plastered on everything from literature to the sides of vehicles.
Another version of the wordmark also uses the localities full name of Prince William County, Virginia should it be used on marketing materials designed to reach a national audience, added Grant.
