‘Alexa, tell me the latest Virginia Lottery winning numbers’

RICHMOND - (Press Release) So you want to know the latest winning numbers? How about the date and time of the next big drawing? How big is the jackpot? What games are available from the Virginia Lottery?
No problem. Alexa knows.
The Virginia Lottery has become one of the first lotteries to make information available via Alexa, the virtual assistant developed by Amazon. The Virginia Lottery partnered with COLAB to develop the “skill” to help any Alexa user who wants information about the Virginia Lottery.
Almost one in three Americans owned a voice-activated smart speaker in August 2018, and up to half of adults could own one after the holiday shopping season, according to Adobe and the Consumer Technology Association.
To use the skill, you simply say, “Alexa, enable the Virginia Lottery.” Some sample phrases could then be:
“Alexa, ask Virginia Lottery: What were the winning Cash 5 numbers?”
“Alexa, ask Virginia Lottery: What is the Powerball jackpot?”
“Alexa, ask Virginia Lottery: What games can I play?”
“This is just the latest way in which the Virginia Lottery is using today’s technology to meet customers where they live and shop today,” said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall. “Along with our new smartphone app and the Lottery’s hugely popular touchscreen vending machines, Alexa helps us empower our players by providing quick, easy access to drawing results and other consumer information.”
In the future, as part of the Virginia Lottery’s Play Responsibly campaign, Alexa will be able to provide users with the Virginia Problem Gambling Helpline number, where people with questions about gambling addiction can go to seek help.
