Woodbridge, Freedom Eyed for Possible Shelters

Brooke Point High School in Stafford will serve as an emergency shelter during Hurricane Irene.

Emergency shelters have not been set up in Prince William County, but officials have space available if the need arises, said Prince William County spokesman Jason Grant.

Woodbridge Senior and Freedom High schools in Woodbridge will be used as shelters if things get hairy, as will Battlefield High School and Bull Run Middle School in western Prince William.

Stafford County opened a shelter at noon today at Brooke Point High School. It will be open at least until noon Sunday.

Hurricane Irene’s rain moved into the area about 10 a.m. and has only increased in intensity ever since.

At a campaign rally for Del. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Dale City) in Dale City this afternoon, wind minimal wind gusts blew through the outdoor pavilion where the event was being held as it Mother Nature was warning of things to come.
