Patrols Increased following Robberies

Lake Ridge, Va. — A recent rash of robberies in Lake Ridge has the district’s leader concerned.

On Monday, police said a man was robbed at gunpoint at a Bank of America on Financial Loop, just off Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge. More than a week earlier, a Woodbridge at the bank’s ATM. No one was injured, but both robberies occurred during early morning hours.

On Aug. 18, a 58-year-old man told police he was sitting in his car in the drive through line at Taco Bell at Tackett’s Mill shopping center when a man approached, brandished a gun and demanded money. When the victim refused, the robbery violently attacked the man, striking him several times in the face with the weapon before grabbing his wallet and fleeing the scene, police said.

Prince William County Occoquan District Supervisor Mike May said robberies like these are rare in Lake Ridge.

I have spoken with the police regarding the issue and I have expressed my own concerns, as well as those of our community. The good news is that we have an excellent police force and our detectives are actively working the cases. In the meantime, they have also stepped up patrols in the areas as well,” said May.

Overall, robberies in Prince William County decreased in 2010 by 13 percent, according to annual crime statistics.
