Animal Shelter’s Hours Changing

Prince William County, Va. — Prince William County’s animal shelter’s operating hours are changing.

The shelter on Bristow Road at Independent Hill will now open Sundays from noon until 4 p.m., and will now be open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will remain closed on Mondays.

The new hours take affect Aug. 2, according to a press release from the shelter.

The animal shelter used to be closed on Sundays and Mondays, and close at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The shelter is operated by the Prince William police department’s Animal Control Bureau which enforces animal welfare laws and conducts animal education seminars.

The shelter is a kill shelter, where all stray animals taken to the shelter have a minimum seven day grace period before they are euthanized.

“Sadly, not all animals brought to the shelter find homes. Please adopt from the shelter — it saves lives,” the shelter’s website states.
