
A 57-year-old man from Stafford was arrested for driving under the influence after causing an accident on Hope Road. The incident occurred when his vehicle rear-ended another car. Upon arrival, Deputy J. W. Courtney noted the driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. The driver was charged with DUI and following too closely and is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
In another incident, a 34-year-old man was charged with petit larceny, shoplifting, and public intoxication after stealing items from a Target store on South Gateway Drive. The suspect was apprehended by First Sergeant Jacobeen and additional stolen merchandise was found in his possession. He is also being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Earlier in the day, a fraud alert led a victim to discover unauthorized purchases on their credit card. Deputy C. A. Sharp responded to the complaint on Clear Spring Lane.

FRAUD
Clear Spring Lane, 12/10 7:48 a.m. Deputy C. A. Sharp responded to a fraud complaint. The victim reported that they received a fraud alert from their bank. The victim learned that fraudulent purchases were made on their credit card.LARCENY
Target, 25 South Gateway Drive, 12/10 6:28 p.m. First Sergeant Jacobeen responded to this business for a shoplifting report. Loss prevention advised a male subject had stolen items, left the store, and was walking to a nearby business. First Sergeant Jacobeen located the subject who admitted to taking a couple of drinks from the store. During a consent search of the subject’s bookbag, additional stolen merchandise was located. The subject was identified as Jamal Johnson, 34, of Stafford. Johnson was charged with petit larceny, shoplifting, and public intoxication. Johnson was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.DUI
Hope Road / Richmond Highway, 12/10 5:24 p.m. Deputy J. W. Courtney responded to this location for an auto accident where a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. Contact was made with the at-fault driver. Deputy Courtney observed the driver to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. While speaking to the driver, Deputy Courtney could smell a very strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his person. After further investigation, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Anana Wankenge, 57, of Stafford. Wankenge was charged with driving under the influence and following too closely. Wankenge was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a secured bond.Major R. Jason Dembowski
