Police Blotter: Swatting Incident Unfolds in Stafford County

Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called to Cove Court following a report of gunshots and a child screaming. This was identified as another swatting attempt at the residence, as no disturbance was found upon investigation.

In another case, a woman was arrested for DUI after crashing her vehicle on the Chatham Bridge. She admitted to consuming whiskey and was charged with driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2.

Additionally, a man was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of controlled substances and operating a vehicle with a false license plate, after an auto accident on Richmond Highway.

SWATTING
Cove Court, 9/28, 12:38 p.m.
Deputies responded to a possible shooting. The caller advised they heard gunshots and a child screaming. Considering this was not the first swatting offense at the residence in question, deputies made contact with the residents. After confirming there was no such disturbance the call was determined to be a swatting attempt.

DUI
Area of Kings Highway and River Road, 9/28, 8:45 p.m. Deputy J.J. Holetzky responded to a single vehicle auto accident. A Buick struck a median, lost control, and ended up in the guard rail on the Chatham Bridge. The driver, on her way to pick up her children, had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming whiskey prior to driving. She was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

McDonald’s, 893 Garrisonville Road, 9/29, 4:08 p.m. Deputy B.A. Vaughn responded to a reckless driver report. The caller advised a Toyota was swerving across the road. Deputy Vaughn observed the vehicle in question as it veered off the road and conducted a traffic stop. The driver had signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming two beers. When deputies attempted to place the driver into custody, he resisted. This resistance would continue until OC spray was deployed and the driver was eventually detained. He was charged with driving under the influence, obstruction of justice and refusal. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

FRAUD
Walmart, 217 Garrisonville Road, 9/28, 4:01 p.m. Deputy X.D. Bates responded to a counterfeit currency call. It was advised a male suspect attempted to make a purchase when staff noticed some of the bills had identical serial numbers. After confronting the suspect on the phony cash, the suspect fled the scene.

LARCENY
Target, 25 South Gateway Drive, 9/29, 12:42 p.m. Deputy K.R. Sprinkles responded to a larceny. Staff advised a male suspect filled a cart with almost $2,000 worth of electronics and was attempting to leave. He was detained after passing all points of sale. The suspect not only admitted to the larceny, but advised he did it to pawn the items in an attempt to gain cash for an upcoming casino visit. He was charged with grand larceny and larceny with intent to sell. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

PUBLIC INTOXICATION
Mr. B’s, 375 Warrenton Road, 9/29, 9:49 a.m. Deputy M.N. Sayegh responded to an intoxicated person report. It was advised a male was stumbling around drinking a beer. When Deputy Sayegh arrived, he observed the intoxicated male still drinking. He was taken into custody and transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail. While at the jail, the suspect broke off into a spirit in an attempt to flee. His efforts were fruitless and Deputy Sayegh was able to stop him. The suspect was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice. He was held without bond.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE
Area of Richmond Highway and Port Aquia Drive, 9/28, 4:41 p.m. Deputy S.M. Kotter responded to an auto accident. While conversing with the at fault driver, he discovered the vehicle had no insurance, was unregistered, had no valid inspection sticker, and was displaying another vehicle’s license plate. While the driver did not display any indicators of impairment during field sobriety tests, during a search of the vehicle suspected controlled substances and an open container of alcohol was located. The suspect was charged with possession of controlled substances, drinking while driving, operating a vehicle with a false license plate, operating an unregistered vehicle, having no insurance, and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

VANDALISM
Coleman Mill Drive, 9/28, 1:27 p.m. Deputy A.E. Epps responded to a vandalism. The victim had the windshield of his vehicle shattered by a concrete block.
