Live music, theater, improv, art, and even a bit of history are all taking center stage across the region this weekend. From Manassas to Fredericksburg, here’s a look at what’s happening August 15–17.
At NOVA Live, the summer tribute concert series wraps up on Saturday, August 16, with all-day performances at theYARD Stage. Headliner Nightrain – A Guns N’ Roses Tribute will close the night. The 12-acre entertainment campus at 9901 Discovery Boulevard includes 2 Silos Brewing Co., The Black Sheep Restaurant, Proof Kitchen + Bar, and more, offering plenty of food and drink options before and after the show.
The ARTfactory in Manassas will host Open Flow Friday on August 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at 9419 Battle Street. The open mic-style night invites all art forms—music, poetry, visual art, and more—with performers encouraged to sign up 15 minutes early. The following morning, Saturday, August 16, marks the final performance of The Sleeping Beauty, presented by Actors Theatre for Young Audiences. The 11 a.m. show offers a whimsical, kid-friendly retelling of the fairy tale. Tickets are available at virginiaartfactory.org/tickets.
The Dumfries Library will present Marines Through History on Friday, August 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This interactive trunk show from the National Museum of the Marine Corps celebrates the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps and explores what it was like to serve from the Revolutionary War through today. The program at 18115 Triangle Shopping Center is open to grades 1 and up. More information is available here.
For something a little less proper and a lot more unpredictable, A Bridgerton Too Far takes the stage at the Allstate Community Theater in Fredericksburg on August 15 and 16. The two-hour improv comedy from Stage Door Productions blends Regency-era manners with the anything-goes humor of Whose Line Is It Anyway? Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 at 810 Caroline Street. More information is available at allstatecommunitytheater.org.
And starting next week in Fredericksburg, the Riverside Center for the Performing Arts will open The Sound of Music for a 10-week run beginning Friday, August 22. Tickets are available at riversidedt.com.
