A new chapter is unfolding at the former Tin Cannon Brewery site in Gainesville, and it’s bringing a colorful mix of sustainability, community, and secondhand treasures.
Mark Harrington, owner of Junk Luggers and the creative force behind Remix Market, announced on the Potomac Local News Podcast that his business will move into the brewery’s former home on Limestone Drive. The location, once a local favorite for craft beer and community gatherings, will soon house a “fun and funky thrift store” that Harrington describes as a curated shopping experience.
“We’re not just hauling junk,” said Harrington. “About 90% of what we pick up is reusable, and Remix allows us to keep those items out of landfills while giving them new life.”
Junk Luggers, a national franchise focused on eco-friendly junk removal, has been active in the local community for nearly six years. Harrington’s Remix Market—currently located in Fauquier County—grew out of a need to control the donation and resale process after realizing many nonprofits lacked the capacity to accept large quantities of donated goods.
The Gainesville store, located at 7679 Limestone Drive, Suite 130, will officially open by the end of June 2025. Harrington plans to operate both the Warrenton and Gainesville locations temporarily during the transition, with an eventual full relocation.
Harrington emphasized the unique nature of the new store. Customers can expect to find everything from home décor and clothing to rare collectibles and even the occasional surprise—like an antique letter stamped with three cents or a wayward bearded dragon found wandering in Dominion Valley.
“Every day, it’s something new,” he said. “It’s part thrift, part time capsule, and always a little unexpected.”
The store will continue its charitable mission by donating a portion of proceeds to the Sweet Julia Grace Foundation, a Bristow-based nonprofit supporting children with serious medical needs.
While the new Gainesville location may not have the highway exposure of its current Route 29 storefront, Harrington is optimistic. Proximity to densely populated neighborhoods and nearby businesses like Evolution Sports will drive foot traffic, he says.
“It’s an elevated thrift store experience,” Harrington added. “Our average sale is around $47—people are walking out with beautiful, functional items that deserve a second life.”
Remix Market’s new location also holds sentimental value. Tin Cannon Brewery was one of the area’s earliest craft breweries, opening in 2015. Its closure marked the end of an era, but for Harrington, it also opened the door to something new.
“We want it to be more than a store—we want it to be a destination,” Harrington said. “And who knows, maybe we’ll even have a keg of Tin Cannon’s finest IPA on tap in honor of what came before.”
