Workout Anytime Gym to Open in Dumfries, Led by Former College Athlete

A new gym is set to open in Dumfries, bringing 24/7 fitness access to the community. Workout Anytime will celebrate its grand opening on February 13 at 18069 Triangle Shopping Plaza (Suite C&D), offering state-of-the-art equipment, personalized training, and a commitment to fostering a healthier lifestyle.

At the helm of the new gym is Gary Wortham Jr., a former James Madison University football player and recruiter, taking on the general manager role. Wortham, a longtime Dumfries resident, is excited to bring his passion for fitness and community building to this new venture.

“We’re thrilled to be opening a full 24-hour fitness facility right in the heart of Dumfries,” Wortham said. “This town hasn’t had anything like this before, and I’m excited to provide a space where people of all ages can work toward their health and wellness goals.”

The gym has been in a soft opening phase for three months, but with its official launch, Wortham is particularly eager to introduce its personal training department.

“We’re building a great team of trainers and will have a fitness director announced at the grand opening,” Wortham said. “We’ll offer one-on-one instruction, fitness tracking with a Styku body scanner, and personalized guidance for members at all levels.”

Wortham’s connection to Dumfries runs deep. He grew up in the community, spent time at the local Boys & Girls Clubs, and later served as a high school football coach at Woodbridge Senior High School under his father, Gary Wortham Sr. His coaching experience and his role as a football recruiting specialist at the University of Maryland cemented his dedication to mentorship and personal development.

His fitness journey has also shaped his approach to leading Workout Anytime.

“I was pushing 350 pounds after my playing days, and now I’m down to 235,” Wortham shared. “It’s been a lifestyle commitment, and I want to help others make those same positive changes in their lives.”

Wortham also highlighted the gym’s growing connections with the Dumfries Town Hall, local police and fire departments, and neighboring businesses. “We really are in the heart of building a lifestyle here that is a fit for everyone and a solution for everyone,” he said. “Just having a service-oriented model and really being able to put empathy first toward lifestyle changes is what we’re looking forward to.”

With the grand opening just days away, Wortham and his team are eager to welcome new members and build a healthier, stronger Dumfries—one workout at a time.

The gym will be staffed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These staffed hours ensure members can receive guidance, sign up for memberships, and take advantage of personal training services.
