Fredericksburg has been named 2022 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor our commitment to effective urban forest management.
This is the 36th year the city has achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Join the city government and the Fredericksburg Area Council of Garden Clubs for the Arbor Day Ceremony planned for Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. on the steps of the Central Rappahannock Library, 1201 Caroline Street.
Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw will be honored at this year’s ceremony. The public is invited and welcome to attend.
The City Manager’s Recommended FY2024 Budget provides for continued funding of the City’s tree management efforts. And the City’s Public Works Department is currently recruiting for a professional Arborist to plan, monitor and evaluate work for trees and forest stands in the City’s right-of-way areas and public spaces.

Dumfries celebrated its 275th anniversary with a grand Gala held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on May 10, 2024. The event, emceed by Guy Lambert, a radio news anchor now with WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C., drew an attendance of approximately 150-200 guests, falling short of the advertised 350 “sold out” crowd advertised by the town.

Sessions begin with a thorough assessment of leadership dynamics on July 15th, participants delve into the intricacies of personal branding and etiquette on July 16th, followed by practical guidance on crafting compelling LinkedIn profiles and resumes on July 17th. July 18th emphasizes the art of storytelling through personal statements, while July 19th culminates in portfolio presentations, allowing participants to showcase their newfound skills. The program concludes on July 20th with a memorable graduation ceremony, celebrating the accomplishments of the ELITE Academy’s graduates and their journey towards leadership excellence.

This event is a testament to their commitment to educate, advocate for, and dispel myths and stigma surrounding mental illness.
Dust off your running or walking shoes, bring your pets, and move with us in this county-wide FREE event in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month on Saturday, May 18th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This year’s theme is Movement: Moving for Your Mental Health.
We will walk along a scenic multi-purpose trail in a wooded setting with sufficient signage to meet the needs of the walkers at Locust Shade Park, 4701 Locust Shade Drive, Triangle, Virginia 22192.
