Deadline approaches for businesses affected by Route 1 name change

Woodbridge-area businesses have until December 15 to apply and receive funds in the Route 1 Refresh grant.

The Route 1 Refresh Grant program provides financial aid to offset the anticipated costs associated with replacing printed materials, signage, and business cards, or to cover costs related to website updates, search engine optimization (SEO), marketing, and other related expenses.

The grant comes after the Prince William Board of County Supervisors opted to change the name of Route 1 from Jefferson Davis Highway to Richmond Highway, following an unfunded mandate sponsored by Fredericksburg Delegate Joshua Cole and signed by former Gov. Ralph Northam requiring localities to change the name of the street, which, since the 1920s, honored the president of the Confederate States of America.
