Plans for 10-acre park next to Dumfries gaming resort include pickleball courts, field, trails

Developers for a new 10-acre park next to a new gaming resort in Dumfries propose making Pickleball courts, soccer, football fields, and walking trails.

Pickleball fans flooded an online community meeting for input on a planned 10-acre park atop a landfill in Dumfries next to a future gambling resort.

Developers of The Rose, a gaming resort to open next year with thousands of video slot machines and more than 300 hotel rooms, presented three options for a new park it's promised to build for the town in a deal town leaders approved this fall. A design featuring 16 pickleball courts -- a sport combining elements of badminton, ping-pong, and tennis -- won the hearts of those who participated in the online meeting, held via Zoom.
