ALDI to open first store in Haymarket

A new ALDI grocery store will open at 6701 Lea Berry Way in Haymarket.

ALDI will open a new grocery store in Haymarket.

Company officials will gather at 7:50 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, December 9, to cut a ribbon and open the new store to the public. Located at 6701 Lea Berry Way, just off Route 55, the store will open in the former site of a Food Lion grocery store.

ALDI will occupy 12,000 square feet, just a portion of the old Food Lion store. The store will open each day at 8 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

“We are excited to open our first ALDI location in Haymarket. What local shoppers will notice is high-quality, fresh foods and low prices in every aisle of the store, every day,” said Jeff Baehr, a regional vice president for the grocer. “We offer a convenient shopping experience with affordable award-winning, sustainable and on-trend goods and look forward to serving Haymarket customers for many years to come.”

ALDI has two other nearby locations at Portsmouth Road outside Manassas and Liberia Avenue in Manassas.

The grocer sells food labels found only in its stores, at lower costs than traditional grocers. In recent years, European grocer Lidl followed ALDI into the U.S. market and opened multiple stores in our area, adhering to a similar business model.
